on average, how much do you try to save per pay check??
percentage or amount..
depending on the month, i usually put anywhere from 150-250... which i guess is around 12% or so? (no retirement contributions)

when I was a student working part-time jobs, I managed to put away maybe 10%. now it's like 40%. once I get to HK and my cost of living goes down, maybe I can put away more. but I doubt it cuz there will be a lot more opportunities to blow disposable income over there.

LOL I think it's the second choice. I put away about 10% every month.

you still in Boston? i think we got like the highest ranking for average proportion of peoples' wages which go towards rent, something ridiculous like 42%. Even Cali and NY were less.
I got lucky and pay very little rent, but that's only cuz I was in the right place at the right time and bought out the remainder of some student lease at a firesale price (a friend's friend's roommate got kicked outta school) in a college town which leaves me with a ridiculous commute. But only for another month and a half. Based on what I've been looking at in HK, rent will probably be even less, only about 15% of my salary over there. Of course, my place will be smaller, but then, my commute time is also gonna go way down ...
