everyone's dieted once or twice.
what are some dieting tips?
what worked the best for you?
besides the whole.."change you lifestyle
and your eating style for good" philosophy.
cutting my portions in half works
really well for me.
and that includes desserts.
but that's really hard for me.
because i don't feel like i've eaten
unless i'm about to pop out
of my pants.

man even tho i'm ballooning like a fat bastard, i just can't stand the thought of dieting. i used to have more self control but oh well. i just figure eventually i'll exercise. but becoming a fat bastard makes exercising less desirable. :-(

When I think of dieting, scale back calorie intake or raise calorie expenditures
More protein, less carbs, less fat
6-8 small meals a day. Lots of water, greens, chicken breast, tuna, and egg whites.

Atkins now for 3 weeks and seriously working out. Atkins will be with me for life it seems. If you're lactose intolerant I found meat + cheeses does not cause problems, only starch + cheeses, FYI.
So far 9 lbs. off and alot of muscle on. Stronger now that I was at 18 it seems. Seems I got shoulders when I got fat. ;)
My wife and I just had too much to do when the 3 kids were infants.

just cut out the processed and simple carbs (sugar, white bread, white rice) and replace with complex carbs (veggies, whole wheat and grains, brown rice, etc). <<=== basically Atkins
you don't have to be miserable. you can diet and not hate life. unless you are an unhealthy crash dieter; that's bad and miserable.

If you want to try Atkins you really have to follow the rules on the website www.atkins.com exactly. I goofed around and read an Atkins book that sucked. The first two weeks are killer, the carb loss, no caffeine, can cause some headaches but I must say my energy was good and never had a sugar crash after that. Things get much easier after that. Like I said, I plan to do this for life and work out and get myself buff.
But if you're young I recommend just stay away from any diets except for avoiding processed carbs like white flour and sugar. Just work out alot. I eat less than I did as a teenager but have alot more weight :(

No more soda. No candy. Less fats. Reduced carbs, but not low-carb or eliminate them outright. Exercise more. A lot more.

It takes me months of heavy eating, sleeping, and working out to gain weight. And then I loose weight in days if I stop going to the gym
Why can't I have a normal metabolism

get sick
usually if you're sick, you don't feel like eating anything, and if you're lucky, you might throw some stuff up too, which ultimately leads to further decrease in caloric intake ^^ Additionally, your body's metabolism speeds up anyways due to the additional burden of having to fight whatever disease, bacteria, or virus you may have.

Dieting can permanently mess up your metabolism. Just avoid some processed sugars and starch and exercise. I wish I had known that a long time ago :(

I don't do any set diet, but I try to stay away from too many carbs. I also force myself to eat slower and I remind myself to stop when I'm full, not to eat until there's no more food. I also injured myself recently and for some reason I've lost weight instead of gained it due to inactivity, but I think it's cause I'm losing muscle weight.

Take's a bit of time getting used to it actually. I started with four a day, then went up to six, then eight, then ten and I'm hoping for twelve in the coming weeks. You should run outside though. I usually do my miles on a treadmill since Durham is full of hills, uneven cobblestone streets and pavement. :(

i'm under 5 feet...
i only went thru one phase of being fat.. in 1991/92... and i mean FAT... like when i walked... my thighs would rub together... i weighed like 120's... or could have been 130's... but anyways... i just had it... i couldnt take it anymore... and i just made the decision... to just lose it...
and from my experience... it wasnt a matter of eating less... but it was cardiovascular exercise that helped me out more than anything else... i used my dad's tread mill... like religously... thats how i ended up losing the excess fat...

4 weeks on strict Atkins diet (Induction phase) and I've taken off 11 pounds while working out 3 times a week. I am hoping (hoping very hard) that I put on alot of muscle from the weight training. I wish I could run again but my ankles just can't take the wear and tear.
Again, for you younger folk, don't diet if you can avoid it and just exercise. I goofed up around too many diets so its now Atkins for life and exercise. :(

diets don't really work unless you exercise, too.
cardio works wonders. i've been having dates with the stairsteppers, treadmills, and bicycles.
cardio burns calories, if u spend more calories then you consume you will lose weight. You can just eat less rather then do cardio.
Diet is the key to losing weight.

yeah dieting doesn't do much if you don't exercise a lot. It's important to keep the blood flow and heart going. You should drink lots of water too.
I think green tea contains antioxidants that helps to boost the metabolism or something.

Yeah, they extracted the antioxidents and other stuff. The one I use adds chromium and ginger. Supposedly studies have shown a 4% metabolism increase so even you didn't do anything different in exercise or diet you would lose a little weight. It's a helper.
I drink 64 oz. of water a day anyway so I pee alot without the supplement.
I generally don't like taking anything unproven but given that it is cheap and contains stuff in normal Asian diets (that I don't have time to do) I figure it can't hurt. It is a fact there are alot of antioxidants which is beneficial.

I think exercise in the long run works better in keeping your weight off, because it also increases your metabolism. Eating less, on the other hand, will only decrease your metabolism, especially if you're eating below your caloric requirements and burning off fat, because your body will adjust to the lower food intake by decreasing its metabolism. I could be talking out of my ass here, so someone please back me up.
What form of exercise raises metabolism more? cardio? or anaerobic? (weight-lifting)

Lifting boosts your metabolism more because it adds muscle to your body. More muscle you have, more food your body needs to maintain it. But remember, in order to build that muscle too, you need to intake a ton of protein.
Eating less is bad for you. Especially if you don't work out. Your body will adjust itself to the lower consumption and force it to actually lower your metabolism. Once you lose that self control, and eat again, you will gain more weight faster.
The best way for women to lose weight is to first find out what their "maintenance" caloric intake is. Cut about 300 calories out from that. So if your maintenance caloric intake is 2400 calories a day, watch your diet closely and consume 2100 calories instead. Simple things like substituting water for juice, and not consuming snacks and candy.
After the caloric intake is down, start a regular regimen of cardio (I've started doing something called HIIT myself). You should be seeing 1-2 lbs of fat loss per week. Anything more then that is generally unhealthy / not possible. It'd be water weight or muscle. Just think tho, after 8 weeks, you'd be da pimp or pimpette of YW.

Checked my bottle, Advanced Ultra Diet Pep. About $10 at Wal-mart for a 1 month supply. Just a pill 2x a day.
I figured Green Tea is having an effect since alot of Dieters on Atkins report that Green Tea starts taking off pounds again once the regular diet levels off their weight loss.
