of employees of two rival bus companies
in chinatown.

Sometimes I wonder how much some gangs own in certain areas.

It's a scary thought.

well look at how Al Capone owned things back in the day and apply the effectiveness of the current law enforement system and you can get a close idea of how much gangs own

LMAO! My friend took the DC to NYC one a few months back. They were showing T3 bootleg during the trip, when it was still out in the theatres!

DO NEVER TEST!

they're run by the shanghainese and the fukinese. mostly the fukinese.

as for gang ties or not, i dunno. but they're cutting into the profits of greyhound buses significantly.

Greyhound < Shanghainese businessmen. GG.

i am reading a book that conducted a research study on chinese triads and the amount of extortion activity that goes on in chinatowns, specifically in NYC. While violence wasn't as prominent in the data, the possibility is always there. i'll post the name and title a little later.

$5 one way. tough to beat that. even non-asians and extremely shady ppl are taking it.

you know i ddint think about it as shady. in NY, it's 20 dollars round trip? to Philly, which isn't quite half Greyhound's price, and 40 bucks to DC. It's not THAT outlandishly cheap, is it? i mean is it so hard to imagine people making a legit profit from that? My sense of costs and prices is pretty whack, so I can't judge, really, but I just didn't think of it as triad-illegit. At the most, I thought, maybe they didn't have the right licenses or hired cheaper labor. But I pretty much doubt the "wrong licenses" thing cuz these companies are pretty big now and proly would be busted for licenses.

i was wondering that too.. the NY-Boston bus is only $10 per a trip. That means if they max out on EVERY single bus, total revenue per bus is still only $560... which seems barely enough to cover expenses (assuming they didn't steal the buses, pay minium wage, don't default on their ezpass, and have statutory limits on their insurance policy)

you can take a van from flushing to chinatown for three bucks. one dollar to and two dollars back.

is 560 for a single trip or per day? Even if we were really conservative and said they make $560/day, * 30 days a month = roughly 15000 per month. That's gotta be enough to pay for everything.

hmm.. when you put it like that, doesn't seem as ludicrous..

I believe it. My neighbor drives one of those shuttle buses. He usually has one or two parked out on the street...anyway he always is telling me about some ridiculous fight the drivers got into and about the heavy competition there.

I dont think the chinatown buses are run by triads but they probly have to pay protection fees to them to operate, kind of like the minibuses in HK
