Anybody ever changed a timing belt on a Honda engine 92 and above with an automatic tension adjuster?

changed it myself or had it changed?
i had a 93 civic and had it done at my 90K maintenance.
did not do it myself. it's big deal tho, if you screw up you could jack your engine.
kboy is correct. Honda engines are 'interference engines' which means that if the timing belt is done incorrectly, the result would be bent valve stems at the very least, and that plus gouged pistons worst case. I have done timing belts on Mitsubishi engines, and the two engines are similar in design. Unfortunately, that's where the similarities end, and I would not be qualified to advise you on a procedure for doing it yourself. I would say take it to a good Honda technician if you can find one outside of a dealership....

Just changed it myself a week ago and she is runnin like a beauty good thing too cause my belt was stretched like a mofo. SOHC honda engines after approx. 1990 are non-interferance. But that doesn't apply cause I got a DOHC VTEC engine and for those you are right they are interfering timing belts, but it all worked out. I also changed out a screwed up radiator in the process and swapped my my outer CV boots. The water pump was the biggest pain in tha ass. All in all I saved around $2100. Thanks for the holler though.

Personally I'd just sell the car before it reached the stage it needed the timing belt changed! My car is approaching 50k miles now and I'm going to get rid.

US vehicles get run into the ground. It's normal nowadays for cars to have about 100K miles in 5 years in southern California. Our society is so dependent on cars, it ain't funny.
