so I want to know.. how long would a large university's HR department take in responding to a potential job candidate?.. specifically, cornell med.

it's been over a week and i haven't heard a thing from them.. and it also says on the job posting page not to call. Which is driving me more antsy since I don't even know if they got all my material.

I'm thinking of sending them a second 'cover' letter soemtime next week if i dont hear from them..good or bad idea?

also..has anyone delt with a HR department that would be comparable to company/univ. like cornell med? care to share your experiences? thanks :-D

I'd ignore the job posting page and call them. You could always track someone down and email. Technically, that's not calling.

oh, i was looking through cornell hr. (now working at cornell) It takes them 2-3 weeks to contact you (depending if you're an interesting candidate or not). If you're impatient, you can call if there was contact info at the job posting, but normally they don't have it so your best bet is to just keep searching elsewhere and wait for them to call you...

Thanks :-D that's kinda comforting.. although.. i applied for a job at Cornell Med... I'm guessing you are at Cornell Univ? I'm hoping they run around the same time frame... wouldn't really suprise me though.. So far, I've only dealt with private companies..who reponded to me w/in a week.. at the latest.
I want this job!! mine!

yeah... they have the same hr department. It's basically them working with the profs who need people... they post the job for a period of about two weeks then they give all the candidates to the person looking to hire, and then it's up to those guys to pick from the pool. If you aren't picked you get a generic letter sent from hr about a week after that.

yeah, i'm working at cornell univ. now :) I was struggling with the HR department for like a month. Good luck with it... the benefits with Cornell are really good so I hope you get the job.

when u say cornell i assume you mean Weill specifically, not NY Presbyterian-Cornell health system? even though the med school is part of the hospital they have two seperate HR departments.

if you're taking about Weill, when i was there for med school, shit went mad slow there. frustrating as hell. but then, you know how slow shit goes in medicine.

i doubt, cornell university have the same HR department as Weill. if they do, it'll just add to the clusterfuck at Weill even more. if you think about it, for example: why would Weill have postings about positions for an ethnic studies position and why would Weill be looking for a ethnic studies graduate.

really? because i was under the impression that all the stuff posted at the various cornell campuses around wherever all are posted at the www.cornell.edu website, since i had the option of sorting all the jobs there according to location and whatever.

but then again, i could just be talking out of my ass...

http://www.med.cornell.edu/

there's also listings of various openings in the different medical departments.

maybe you're right also. i dunno, i never browsed the cornell university website.

edit: can the HR dept run efficiently with Weill being at 68th and york in nyc and with Cornell university being in upstate ny, ithaca?

it's all done through email and stuff... so it's conceivable. i guess we just need to ask where artzy applied at... I was thinking of www.ohr.cornell.edu/jobs but i can't find any jobs listed at weill...

hmm... maybe my bad then...

Hmm I thought I was confused.. lol.

I applied for a job at Cornell-Weill...but I am and have been looking for a job,.. pretty much everywhere in North East. I just sent an app to a job in Maryland.. state job.. mmmmm state jobs.

i hate the job market now...
even more since everyone else in my graduating class have jobs now..granted that's only two other people. They are my friends, but I'm kicking myself now for helping them with their webpage..projects... ect.

why would you do something like that when you, yourself, have no j-o-b. and from the same field too? they're just competition for you. you basically shot yourself in the foot.

It's weird... we always help eachother. they are my good friends.. people we've never met talk to us for five minutes and see how close we are. Actually that costed us a job, the employer freaked out when he realized we were inseperatable. eh, his loss.

I never thought this would turn out that way, since both of them weren't really into finding and searching a job. The job landed in their laps. The company hired two of them instead of one medical illustrator as they previously intended to. Bah.

and yes, University of Rochester has a Univ. Hospital -- part of University of Rochester Medical Center/College... it's one of the best ones upstate, not that there are lots of large healthcare centers outside of NYC.

I wouldn't know.. I've never been to ithaca, but I like being close to NYC. I'll go, if ithaca is looking for a medical illustrator.. i doubt that though.
